Cybera is a not-for-profit, technology-neutral organization responsible for driving Alberta’s economic growth through the use of digital technologies. Its core role is to oversee the development and operations of the advanced system of networks and computers that keep Alberta’s government, educational institutions, not-for-profits, business incubators, and entrepreneurs at the forefront of technological change.

Working with partners in the public and academic sectors, Cybera is also leading projects in western Canada to pilot emerging technologies and build digital skills and understanding among Canadians.

Are you interested in working at the forefront of future technologies? We are looking for an outgoing, creative, and adaptable Communications Specialist to manage the communications for a new digital platform for the education and start-up sectors, as well as support Cybera’s communications team with other external activities. This person actively fosters relationships with both our internal and external communities, and effectively engages and involves stakeholders in conversations. He or she also plays a role in developing and implementing communications strategies that will help this project achieve its strategic deliverables.

This is your opportunity to work for a flexible, tech-forward company that is working to make Alberta a digital powerhouse! Flexible work times, great benefits and the opportunity to develop and foster your own projects make for a fantastic working environment.

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy to engage stakeholders in a new data science platform.

  • Produce communications materials, including blog and website updates, e-mail marketing campaigns, and press releases.

  • Lead presentations and/or introductions to stakeholder groups.

  • Collaborate with Cybera’s Communications Team to create media materials for individual projects and services.

  • Assist with the planning of stakeholder engagement activities, including the Cyber Summit, and arranging for Cybera’s presence at other events.

  • Interact with a wide range of external and internal individuals and organizations.

  • Remain up-to-date with trends and solutions in the education technology space.

The Communications Specialist requires:

  • Post-secondary education with training in communications, marketing, public relations, or equivalent.

  • Four years’ experience in a communications position with changing priorities and demands.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, and the ability to write for a range of traditional and digital media platforms.

  • Proven time-management and organizations skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good social media skills, and ability to develop compelling online content.

  • Keen audience insights and knowledge related to changing technologies and innovations.

  • Ability to travel within western Canada.

  • Experience with media relations.

  • Must be comfortable working in a purely Google / Mac-based environment (i.e. Gmail/calendar/hangout/drive/etc).

  • Experience with WordPress and email marketing programs is an asset.

  • Finally, we are looking for someone who identifies with Cybera’s public service mission and will compliment the culture of the organization.
