I was among thousands of individuals at Supercomputing in Portland last week fortunate enough to see the former Vice President of America, Al Gore talk on Climate Change.

Cybera staff are gathered this week at Supercomputing '09  in Portland, OR along with 12,000 others interested in the latest computer technologies. Local TV stations took a tour of the 31, 650 square foot exhibition facility and are describing it as "Nerd-vana". If you are in the area, be sure to stop by booth #142 to visit delegates from Compute Canada's seven consortia (including WestGrid), CANARIE, and Cybera. Don't forget to bring your air hockey skills!

Cybera staff and partners were among the participants gathered in their formal attire to celebrate the 20th ASTech Awards on the evening of November 6. The annual event, which took place at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary, honoured innovative work by Alberta's science and technology community.

This year's event was hosted by Gavin Crawford from the CBC's "This Hour has 22 Minutes." Crawford entertained the audience with his comedic spin on Canada's current events and affairs, particularly the current state of the economy.

Nearly 50 people attended the Cybera Meet and Greet at the University of Alberta on November 5. The lunchtime event highlighted the valuable synergies between the Department of Computing Science and Cybera, and it was an opportunity to introduce one of Cybera's newest projects, CESWP, to the staff, faculty and researchers at the University of Alberta.
