Communications Officer

Cybera is seeking a full-time Communications Officer
 
Cybera works with public and private partners to accelerate research and product development in priority areas, including health, energy and environment, and ICT. Cybera also manages CyberaNet and acts as the prime contractor for the management of WestGrid, a consortium that provides advanced computing in support of research across the province. Cybera maintains primary offices and staff at the University of Calgary and at the University of Alberta. 
 
This position will coordinate external communications activities to support Cybera’s Projects department. The Communications Officer will report directly to Cybera’s Director of Communications.
 
The ideal candidate will possess the following traits:

  • Two to three years experience in a communications or public relations field.
  • Strong writing skills in the following styles: press releases, newsletter articles, feature profiles, web content, etc. (samples will be requested).
  • Experience coordinating and managing public events.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to successfully interact with a variety of personalities.
  • Aptitude with computer applications, ie. MS Word, Excel, Adobe CreativeSuite, etc.
  • Able to coordinate a diverse scale of projects and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Able to work both independently as well as part of a virtual team.
  • An interest in technology and research.
  • Basic HTML knowledge is an asset.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide general communications and public relations support for Cybera’s Projects department.
  • Collaborate with the Projects team to create and implement communications plans and strategies for individual projects.
  • Produce content for a variety of communications mediums, including print, video and web.
  • Increase media and public exposure for Cybera projects. 
  • Coordinate and implement project outreach efforts, including planning and hosting events, or arranging for Cybera project presence at other events.

Compensation and Location:
This position may be located in Cybera’s Calgary or Edmonton office. The location of work will be determined by the location of residence of the successful candidate. Salary will commensurate with experience.
