Over the past three years Cybera has run more than 25 projects, a selection of which can be found in our project gallery. The projects range in budget from $25,000 to almost $2 million and run in duration from a couple of months to more than two years. The projects support virtual organizations ranging from three to six participating organizations, who govern the project and provide insight into the domain-specific direction of the project.
To date Cybera has experience working with a number of funders including CANARIE, Western Economic Diversification, the Government of Alberta, the Canada Foundation of Innovation and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Most recently, Cybera was administrative lead on four CANARIE-funded Network-Enabled Platforms projects, a program which funds the development of tools and software that help researchers exploit and share the massive amounts of data that flows along the CANARIE network.
Overall, Cybera’s projects demonstrate the benefits and advance the use of cyberinfrastructure in research and business. In addition to developing middleware solutions that can be re-purposed to solve other challenges, the expertise acquired through these projects also helps build a skilled workforce that can better compete in an increasingly knowledge-based economy.
