Data Management, Cloud, and Other Computing Technologies

Cybera consults on, and provides access to, data management resources and the latest advancements in computing technologies, including cloud, grid, and high performance computing. Operating primarily in the phase between research and development and maturity, Cybera is attacking a suite of Very Big Data challenges across multiple disciplines — from metabolomics and genomics to major issues facing the oil and gas sector.

In addition to providing a suite of network services, Cybera is also investigating opportunities to increase Albertans' access to tools and technologies that support innovation. For example, Cybera is partnering with WestGrid to develop a microcluster installation that will combine a production computing resource with an ‘on demand’ test-bed for experimentation and exploration in the name of technological advancement and commerce. Details on this initiative will be released in Spring 2011.

Also, to both deepen and broaden Cybera’s work on Web 2.0 and other trending tools, John Shillington, Vice President Technology, is building a strategy for tracking, studying and evaluating these emerging areas and then, more importantly, helping to connect people to them and move the technologies forward. This 'tech radar' development will be created in partnership with Cybera's International Strategic Advisory Committee as well as Cybera members.
