23 April 2009 Members from the first round of CANARIE Network-Enabled Projects gathered at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on April 20 – 22 for the CANARIE NEP-1 Synergy Workshop. Among the attendees were project representatives from Cybera. CANARIE reported the platforms could only have emerged from discipline communities that shared similar or identical research challenges. The workshop was an opportunity for the 10 discipline specific projects to share their work and their challenges and to explore the possibilities for synergy amongst them.
12 March 2009 Eight additional organizations will access the CANARIE Network through its Infrastructure Extensions Program. Launched in 2007, the $15M Program creates extensions to Canada’s research and education network that will accelerate research, enable national and international collaboration, improve access to knowledge, and contribute to the development of cyber infrastructure and e-research in Canada. : Read Full Media Release >
17 February 2009CANARIE recently announced a $12 million second round of the Network-Enabled Platforms Program (NEP). Proposals for innovative research projects based on the use of the CANARIE advanced network are now being accepted. The NEP-2 program will focus on the development and deployment of middleware tools and related platform technologies or infrastructure that will be used by virtual organizations and interested research communities to support their existing and proposed research activities.
