CPP Presents LHC Grid Fest
3 October 2008 The Centre for Particle Physics (CPP) at the University of Alberta presented LHC Grid Fest on Friday, October 3, in celebration of the launch of the LHC Computing Grid. More than twenty people attended the event, which included speeches by WestGrid representative Paul Lu, and Cybera business coordinator Adam Lukaszuk.
Cybera Summit 08 Draws to a Close
30 September 2008 Cybera’s second-annual cyberinfrastructure summit drew to a close on Sept. 30, after two days of talks and networking. The second day featured a keynote address by Nora Young, host of CBC Radio’s Spark program, and talks on cloud computing, green IT and disruptive technologies. Cybera Summit 08 is On Now
29 September 2008 Over 80 people are currently learning and networking at Cybera Summit 08: Driving Business Innovation. The conference began this morning with an eventful keynote address, as speaker Paul Strong was forced to deliver his talk via videoconference after his flight from San Francisco was cancelled. The staff at the Banff Centre were quick to respond, and the speech went on virtually as planned.

GeoChronos featured on Innovation Anthology
18 September 2008 From Cheryl Croucher’s Innovation Anthology: What do tropical forests have in common with Facebook? The link is Dr. Arturo Sanchez, professor and director of the Centre for Earth Observation Science at the University of Alberta. An expert in remote sensing, Dr. Sanchez collaborates with scientists in Central and South American to study cloud cover. Called Tropi-Dry, his project is getting a communications boost through a new initiative called GeoChronos.
