New network tools, data science training, and the latest from ShareIT

Now that another successful Cyber Summit is under our belts, it’s time to look back at the programs, tools and upgrades Cybera launched in recent months, and remind members what they may have missed out on.

Cyber Summit breaks records


Despite the cold and snow, over 250 people made it out to our November conference (an in-person record for the Cyber Summit!). We have made 15 of the session slide decks available for attendees to view. Have an idea for how we could improve the Summit for next year, or what topics we should focus on? Fill out our feedback survey to let us know!


New cybersecurity group for education sector


To increase shared cybersecurity learning and discussion opportunities within Alberta’s education sector, Cybera will begin hosting a series of quarterly online webinars and conversations for IT leaders in the K-12 and post-secondary sectors. The first online session, “A day in the life of a CISO,” will run on December 8 at 1:30 pm MT.

New group of industry data science projects underway


Cybera has launched its first cohort of the Applied Data Science Lab, which gives Alberta companies and budding data scientists the chance to trial a real-world data exploration project. This work integrated learning program has paired eight emerging data scientists with two Alberta based businesses to carry out a six-month project.

ShareIT quarterly review shows big savings

ShareIT members spent nearly $5 million between July 1 – Sept 30, 2022, and achieved $1.33 million in savings. As well as running in-person visits with post-secondary members, the ShareIT team also solidified new master agreements for networking and end user computing hardware.

Cybera’s network team has launched a new portal to give members a better overview of the services they are using, including networking and cybersecurity programs. It also offers improved authentication opportunities.

Router changes doubles Cybera’s capacity

Following 28 months of effort, Cybera’a decade-old Calgary router has been replaced with a new device. This has increased our upstream connectivity to up to 200 Gbps, speeds that have been welcomed by our bandwidth hungry members!

Callysto hackathons hitting new student heights

Recently, our Callysto team traveled to Fort McMurray to host a data science hackathon for 250+ students at Westwood Community High School. This was one of several hackathons hosted this year. Check out Callysto’s hackathon page to find out how to bring one of these events to your K-12 school.
