Alberta NIST Assessment Workshop
Alberta NIST Assessment Workshop
Date: February 22, 2024
Time: 8am - 5pm
Place: NAIT Productivity and Innovation Centre (PIC), Room 230, Main Campus, Edmonton, AB
The goal of this workshop will be to dive deeper into the collective results of the National Cybersecurity Assessments for Alberta’s post-secondary sector, and determine what gaps or issues we should focus our attention on.
If you have any questions or would like to change/add to your workshop participants, please reach out to us at security@cybera.ca.
Attendee Prep
To prepare for this meeting, we ask all attendees to review their individual institution’s NCA report, as well as the following documents:
- NIST primer
- High-level overview of the Alberta NCA results
- Review of the cybersecurity services Cybera currently offers post-secondaries
- Review of the proposed regional Security Operations Centre (rSOC) and national CanSSOC
We also want you to come to this workshop with ideas around:
- What are the most critical areas of weakness we should focus on
- What solutions should we work on collectively, vs what solution should be the focus of Cybera, individual post-secondary institutions, or other external organizations?
- How should we structure and fund any new initiatives?
- What role are you or your institution willing to play in shaping and running these new initiatives?
- What resources would you be willing to share (people, templates, reports, etc)?
If all goes well, by the end of the day we will have a list of priorities for tackling the biggest challenges our post-secondaries are facing, which we can then use to build a collective strategy.
