Building a Digital University: CANHEIT 2012

'€œBuilding the Digital University'€ is the theme of the 10th annual Canadian Higher Education Information Technology Conference, being held this week in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This topic also aligns with what Cybera and the University of Alberta hope to accomplish with an exciting new project.

Cybera'€™s Everett Toews will be presenting at the conference in partnership with the University of Alberta'€™s Donna Gorday on the virtual computing labs that have become available to its students, on a small scale, within the last year. Through this project, users can access all the programs and compute power needed to complete their coursework, without having to invest in buying the hardware or software systems required. Students have access to virtual machines '€” digital instances of a computing desktop that they can reserve in advance or access instantly '€” that run on any computer/OS and have the course programs already installed and available.
